Further dismantling of our sculpture trail at Stourhead "Stourhead will never forget". This commemorated the effect of World War 1 on the community.One of our installations commemorated Harry Hoare, the heir to the estate. We created an Edwardian nursery to celebrate his childhood at Stourhead. He was killed in Palestine in December 1917.Above Rachel and Paul pull uphill the toy car from the nursery. The carousel in the nursery remains for a few more days.Bottom photo shows the central panel of the dismantled mural which commemorated Gallipoli where any local men fought. There was a rock formation   nicknamed the Anzac Sphinx. We may be showing some of the picees from Stourhead at other public venues in the summer.

Dismantling our sculpture trail at Stourhead

We have been dismantling our sculpture trail "Stourhead will never forget" which we installed at the National Trust property in Wiltshire  to commemorate the effect of the First World War on the community. The band, that was floating on a lake, is now rehomed  on terra firma in the Scraptors' sculpture mad garden. The cannon above, an element in the nursery installation representing the childhood of Harry Hoare, has  also bee rehomed in the garden  Anthony has added an alien guardsman. The wheels started life as patio heaters for outside areas of a pub. The frog in the background was made by Anthony for the Recycled Sculpture Show at the London Wetlands Centre  which he curated in 2009. The skin has a mosaic of mobile phone  dummies.

We are planning some installations at Three Ways School in Bath ...some large scale caterpillars made from car hub caps ....more info coming soon. in the meantime pictured are some mock up images.....

Installation in memory of Harry Hoare completed at Stourhead

 We installed the last bits and pieces, a cannon and a toy car,  to the installation commemorating the life of Harry Hoare heir to the Stourhead. He was killed in November 1917 at Mughar Ridge in Palestine trying to rescue the horses in a battle with the Turks. The ridge was a vital spot on the route to Jerusalem. His parents received the news on Christmas Eve. We decided to commemorate him with a late Victorian nursery but there are intimations of the war which took his life at the age of 29.

There are now six installation at Stourhead the National Trust property in Wiltshire in the sculpture trail "Stourhead will never forget." This commemorates the effect of World War 1 on the community. We have commemorated Ebenezer Stone, a stable lad, who lost both legs in the war with a giant bike because he made his own before 1914. There is an installation showing a landscape morphing from Arcadia to Armageddon. We have commemorated Gallipoli and the Middle East where local men in the Dorset Yeomanry fought. A floating band recalls the entertainments for convalescent troops at Stourhead and also the scratch bands formed by soldiers on all sides  in the war.

The trail remains in place until November 2017,the centenary of Harry's death.A brochure is available at the visitor centre at Stourhead.

Carousel in memoriam Henry Hoare

We are installing our last pieces at Stourhead the National Trust property in Wiltshire as part of our sculpture trail "Stourhead will never forget" commemorating the effect of World War 1 on the community..To commemorate the life of young Harry Hoare, the heir to the estate, we are creating a nursery scene in the woods. There are the sorts of toys a small boy might play with. But there are hints of his untimely death at the age of 29 in a battle at Mughair Ridge in Palestine in November 1917. He was trying to rescue the horses. the trail remains in place until November 2017 and a leaflet is available from the visitors centre.

Cannon for Stourhead

A cannon for Stourhead, the National Trust property in Wiltshire.Our  last installation for our sculpture trail commemorating the effect of World War 1 on the community will recall Harry Hoare, heir to the estate who was killed at Mughair Ridge in Palestine in November 1917. He went to the rescue of the horses.We are evoking his happy young life with  a nursery themed installation ; but it will have  intimations of his sad end. As a boy he may have well played with a toy cannon. This cannon is work in progress.
