Below pyramids in a Somerset grotto. The date of the grotto is unknown but probably eighteenth century was was in the grounds of a now demolished country house.
Pyramids commemorating World War 1 in a project for the National Trust at Stourhead in Wiltshire from 1915 to 1917. Many local men served with the Dorset Yeomanry in the Middle East in that war. The motifs include the red poppy and the blue cornflower, British and French commemorative symbols. The soldier carrying a wounded comrade represents the Anzac memorial at Gallipoli.And the Turkish memorial at Gallipoli is on the far right pyramid in first photograph. The pyramids have now been placed in the Scraptors' sculpturemad garden.
