Guiding the guides at Stourhead

Scraptor Anthony gave a guided walk at Stourhead for the guides at the National Trust property taking them round the Scraptors' sculpture trail   "Stourhead will never forget " commemorating the effect of World War 1 on the community.  Above is Ebenezer Stone's Bike. He was a stable lad who made himself a bike before the War but lost both legs in the conflict. Out of the shot are two giant crutches, one morphing into a gun. Below is the Camel Train - a train containing camels not a train of camels. This commemorates the involvement of local men in the Middle East with the Dorset Yeomanry.Camels in large numbers were transported by train.

Aliens go for a walk with their pet in the Scraptors sculpture mad garden

Spring has sprung , maybe a rather cold one. The aliens are out for a walk. The monster has flowered.

Scraptor Paul infects van

Last week Paul painted a friends pick up truck ....coating it with a whole environment of rocks, mutant insects and  plant forms ......the truck is based here at this weird and wonderful scrap yard and centre for all sorts of interesting stuff :http://www.rockawaypark.co.uk/

Wolf's Head Trail

We held a workshop attended by some 30 people of all ages to plan a new sculpture trail for which initial funding has been found from Arts Council England.The participants contributed to creating this wolf's head. Wolves will feature in the trail.

Dragon headed snake comes to the Scraptors' sculpture mad garden

Anthony made this rain hopper into a dragon head. The Weavers class  of Crockerton primary school on a  recent visit voted that was what the hopper should become.It has fangs which are a bit hard to spot here.

Anthony has revamped the crocodile in the garden  (below)  with new claws.  A small boy is doing a back flip on it. This is based on a sculpture in the British Museum which shows a boy of the Tentrytae tribe in Egypt in  Ancient Roman times performing acrobatics on one of these reptiles. There is another version of that sculpture in the Palazzo Massimo Museum in Rome.

   Anthony has added an eye-catcher in  a corner of the garden - the bits were  found in a skip.

Arcadia to Armageddon in the winter sunshine

Low winter sunshine and the lack of shade from leaves provided excellent conditions for photographing our installations at Stourhead in Wiltshire "Stourhead will never forget"  commemorates  the effect of World War 1 on the community.. In "Arcadia to Armageddon" a peaceful landscape, including nearby Alfred's Tower, morphs into a battle scene.The horse ploughing a field acquires a gas mask and becomes a war horse.

Below the camel train -camels were carried by train across the desert in the Middle East where many local men served with the Dorset Yeomanry in World War 1

Crockerton Primary School visit Bird Henge and the Scraptors' sculpturemad garden

The Weavers Class from Crockerton Primary School have visited Bird Henge and the Scraptors sculpturemad garden. They filled in a quiz which asked them to find two harlequins, three frogs, a gargoyle and other things in the garden.
